Padua Basilica Suffers Minor Damage in Earthquake

Historic Landmark Remains Open to Visitors

Minor Damage to Paintings and Stucco

PADUA, Italy - The Basilica del Santo, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Padua, suffered minor damage in an earthquake that struck the region on Monday.

According to local officials, the quake caused some paintings to fall from the walls and damaged some of the basilica's stuccowork. However, the basilica remains open to visitors, and there were no reports of any injuries.

The Basilica del Santo is a fundamental site for religious visitors and is home to some of the most important relics of Saint Anthony of Padua. The basilica is also known for its beautiful architecture, which includes a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles.

The earthquake that struck Padua was part of a series of quakes that have been hitting central Italy in recent weeks. The largest of these quakes, a magnitude 6.2 event, struck on August 24th and caused widespread damage and loss of life.
