Supreme Court Strikes Down Ban on Bump Stocks
Trump-Era Ban Invalidated
WASHINGTON AP The Supreme Court on Friday struck down a Trump-era ban on bump stocks a gun accessory that allows semi-automatic rifles to fire at a much faster rate.
The 6-3 ruling was a setback for the Biden administration which had defended the ban and for gun control advocates.
Bump stocks are devices that can be attached to the back of a semi-automatic rifle allowing the shooter to fire multiple rounds quickly with a single pull of the trigger.
The ban was enacted in 2018 after a gunman used a bump stock to kill 58 people and injure hundreds more at a music festival in Las Vegas.
Conclusion
The court's decision is likely to further embolden gun rights advocates and could make it more difficult for states and localities to pass their own gun control laws.
